The Core 2 Duo MacBooks Pros have been released. I’ve been waiting for these machines before I bought a new Mac laptop. I have a Core Duo in my T60 and it’s a great processor. It’s compiles the C# projects I’m working on quickly and Java 1.6 runs smoothly. I’ve go no complaints about the chip.

My parents just bought a new 20inch iMac with the Core 2 Duo and Tiger runs so quickly, you don’t pay the “OS X Eye Candy” speed penalty.

Now it comes down to what model to buy, the 15inch or the 17inch. My gigantic 24inch Dell monitor has shown me the joy of a ton of screen real estate so I’m leaning towards the 17inch. It’s got the same resolution as the 20inch iMac. The downside is the size and weight. It’s a hefty 7 pounds of hardware. That will prove to be an effort as I walk / bike to work.

Regardless, it’s a fun decision to have to make.
