I might be a little late to the party, but I recently watched Zeitgeist, a released-to-internet-only conspiracy doc. It touches on some of the issues discussed in Alex Jones’ Endgame, but presents these issues in a much less fanatical, less “conspiracy nutty” kind of way. Which, I think, is something you should strive for when you’re trying to convince people that Jesus was fake, 9/11 was an inside job, and that we’re all the puppets of uber-powerful international bankers.

I don’t know how real or not the claims made by this movie are, so I’ve got some googling to do. So far, the criticisms I’ve seen mostly stop at saying that the movie is edited and presented in a manner to maximize shock and drama value. If this movie is bull dookey, I need someone to flat out tell me it’s wrong and why, ’cause that shit about the bankers and the World Trade Center? Well that just freaked me out. If you really want to see what people mean when they say “an intimate show”, you have to go see a band play at the Horseshoe Tavern. It’s the kind of place that looks like somebody’s basement, with a floor that holds a few hundred at best, and a stage that looks like it can barely hold all of the band’s gear. There are no roadies to set up equipment, no security to keep people from climbing onto stage; just the faint echoes of a million songs played by a thousand bands that came through on the way to becoming something.

Although, you might not be blamed for paying no mind to the tavern’s history when your face is being melted off by some fresh new band, right-this-second. That’s what these kinds of places are supposed to be about, right? What some unknown band is playing in a dingy bar like the Horseshoe Tavern right now might be the radio hit of tomorrow, might be the beginning of something, might be what rock aficionados still talk about in 20 years, what some kid a generation from now uses to understand us. And right now, someone is listening to Vampire Weekend for the very first time thinking, “These guys are great!”, and someone is blogging about them being the next big thing. Someone is hoping they’ll help indie rock save us from the doldrums of the pop music industry like the critics said it would.

I got to see these guys play at the Horseshoe with my friend Kim, a week or so after the release of their debut album that’s been so hyped (yet so catchy), that hipster-rock-snobs everywhere nearly self-destruct in sarcastic meltdowns trying to figure out whether to hate them or not.

Vampire Weekend @ The Horseshoe Tavern

I can’t claim to be “in the know” when it comes to indie rock or the latest in music news, but I know what I like. What I saw on stage that night was a talented band playing damn good music, and you kind of got the feeling these guys were loving every second of their hype-fueled ride (no, Chris Baio is not wearing a two-tone shirt in that picture, that’s authentic rock n’fucking sweat), no matter how long or short it might be. Here was a band in the midst of becoming something, whether that something is a massive hit or just another entry in the continuing list of over-hyped indie bands, and I got to be there for it.

It’s the Call the Office of Toronto.

The workout is a grip-fatiguing Double Tabata of KB swings and pullups. Tuesday’s workout for Laura and I had KB swings and pullups as well, so I know first hand how it hurts. For me swinging a 52# cannonball tires my grip really quickly, and I only did 63 reps, John ripped out 80. I suppose more KB and heavy deadlifts are in order, that should help my deathgrip.

John is the guy that helped me drop 30# and 11% body fat.

C’mon.

I’m officially an old-man, casual gamer. I don’t have the time or desire to work through an 80 hour RPG or grind through a game like Devil May Cry.

Games like Mario Kart Wii are perfect for me, sit down for 15 minutes and run a few tracks, done and done. Almost everything on the DS is a good fit as well. 15 minutes here and there, that’s all I can afford.

I’m amazed at the people that can fit World of Warcraft into their lives, there is no way I could manage dedicating that amount of time to a game.

This past weekend I subbed for meanPeace and got to play with Josee, one of the ladies from Capitals, the #1 East Coast womens touring teams. It was a great learning experience and I should have tried to get more advice, but I didn’t want to be an ass.

And Laura took a picture of me seconds before I ripped my finger open on a nail. I’m so awesome.

On August 27th, 2007 I did 5 rounds + 25 Double Unders + 20 box jumps.

Today, Sept 14th, 2007 I did 6 rounds + 25 Double Unders + 20 box jumps + 4 GHD situps. 17% increase in work and ended this bootcamp with 13% body fat.

Goals going forward: Consistent Double Unders, less sucky kipping pullups and more muscleups.

Great to see him coming into form.
