Getting a Mac after going without for a bit longer than a year leads to me forgetting how to do a few Mac specific and Unix specific things. Thankfully, the intertubes has all the answers I was looking for.
1) Setting $JAVA_HOME
James Duncan Davidson tells us how to set JAVA_HOME correctly. I’m doing some Grails, Groovy and Scala work, so this was important.
2) Setting $PS1
If you use the terminal you might as well make it pretty. Daniel Robbins of Gentoo Linux fame has a great write up on ibm.com/developer regarding this.
3) Configuring ls to output colours.
Drunken Batman offers a simple tutorial to do this. I never remember to update the man pages for the ls I compile, so it’s great that it’s outlined here.
I picked up a few new books:
The Problem with Physics, by Lee Smolin Apparently, there is something wrong with string theory. Since I’ve read a bunch of string theory books, I’d like to know if I should just forget all that stuff. :)
The Laws of Simplicity, by John Maeda Read about John Maeda here. This book is about simplicity. Duh.
Creative Code, by John Maeda This is more of a playground for good looking computer stuff.
The Effective Executive, by Peter Drucker I’m accusing myself of not being as productive as I could be.
Random sexy guitar link: Sweet hooba jooba this is a beautiful guitar. And it’s a thinline.

I’ve rejected the same guy like 6 times already. It says he went to my highschool but I have no idea who it is. Could it be that I was actually cooler than someone? I think not.

I sent a request I played Ultimate Frisbee with a long time ago. I saw him recently and was all buddy buddy, not denied on FaceBook.
