    Mario Kart Wii

Here’s some footage of Mario Kart Wii.

I’m officially an old-man, casual gamer. I don’t have the time or desire to work through an 80 hour RPG or grind through a game like Devil May Cry.

Games like Mario Kart Wii are perfect for me, sit down for 15 minutes and run a few tracks, done and done. Almost everything on the DS is a good fit as well. 15 minutes here and there, that’s all I can afford.

I’m amazed at the people that can fit World of Warcraft into their lives, there is no way I could manage dedicating that amount of time to a game.

Super Metroid is on the Virtual console today.

This will be the first game I buy for the Virtual Console.

Visual Studio on Parallels / Red Steel.

After installing Parallels on my MacBook Pro I installed Visual Studio C# Express to see how it would perform. Without any sort of metrics I’ll say that it seemed faster than my T60, notably compilation appeared to be much faster.

Laura rented Red Steel for the Wii. Um.. I burned through the first two levels and the entire time I was fighting with the controls. It’s not a bad game, in fact, it’s quite good for a launch title. I think that more time with the controller and more time on the cut scenes and this game would have been great. As it is, the control scheme knocked me out of the experience.

    Unlockable Trucks you say.

It appears that Excite Truck was made with me in mind. It offers unlockable trucks and paint jobs as you progress through the game. Now unlockable content is certainly not new, but Nintendo adds one vital bit of information that hooks me. They tell me that I only need three more races or two more wins to unlock a new truck. That simple addition keeps me playing for hours.

Scary thing is…after playing that game for a few (read: 5) hours, I hopped in the car for a short road trip and was overwhelmed with disappointment that our grand am doesn’t fly through the air like the Dominator. Stupid Grand Am

Wait, the Grand Am *shouldn’t* have fire coming out of it? We need to talk.

    Wii day

Laura and I will attempt to pickup a Wii tomorrow.

    Hope this works.

Update: Denied at FutureShop… the person right in front of me got the last one.
Still hope with Laura at Toys’ R Us.

Update 2: Laura FTW!! Picks up a Wii!!!

Update 3: Wii Sports is ridiculous amounts of fun. And PHOTOZ!!!!

Update 4: The Wii on standby uses 2 watts. Disappointing to say the least.

Nice! We tried a couple of places and were denied. Walmart was the same situation as you at FS. Hit up Zellers as the 5th person in line, but they said they only had stock for pre-orders. :(
Ordered my online at Sears. Back-order until 12/05. Ah well. Let me know how it goes.

did you have to beat up any teenagers for that? the answer better be ‘yes’.

    • Tyler 9:31 pm on November 19, 2006 Permalink

If by “beat up” you mean “freeze with” the yes.

I chose to wait in line at the indoor ToysRus at Yonge and Eglinton. Got cozy with a warm cup of Timmy’s tea, and the Sunday Star while Ty froze his toes off (ya…they came right off!!) at Future Shop. Sweet deal! It’s a good thing the cute kids behind me in line got a Wii as well because if not,I don’t know if I could have dealt with their sad kid faces.

    • Tyler 11:49 am on November 20, 2006 Permalink

I would have rubbed it in the kid’s faces and told them that if their parents really loved them they would have been in line earlier.

      haha.. atta boy, Ty!
Did you guys get any other games while you were at it?

Color me impressed…and so very jealous.

Atta girl Laura, she did the work. I just stood outside in the cold for no reason.

“I just stood outside in the cold for no reason”

No, just think of it as you being the decoy. All the people probably thought that if you were getting a Wii at Future Shop, it was the place to be! That left Laura free and clear to hit up Toys ‘R Us. Sneaky Ty, very, very sneaky!!!

True, it was all an elaborate ruse to win the day.
